Villa Orquidea on Tankah Bay is located near the town of Tulum, and is located within the Riviera Maya section of the state of Quintana Roo. The Caribbean Sea surrounds this endless and beautiful beach, with its turquoise waters. It is one of Mexico’s prime vacation destinations because of the enormity of activities, restaurants, and warm and gentle climate.
Villa Orquidea is approximately an hour and a half drive from the Cancun airport, and is about thirty minutes from the thriving city of Playa del Carmen. When driving to Tankah Bay from the airport, many guests choose to stop shop at Maya Centro in Playa del Carmen and pick up a few groceries for the next week. Or you may take advantage of the San Francisco’s Supermarket located right in Tulum along with the many local food shops.
Riviera Maya Resorts line the beach from the Cancun Airport along highway 307 to Tulum, and feature beautiful grandiose entrances, with luxurious all-inclusive style hotels with many on site restaurants, pools, entertainment, and tour guides, available exclusively to guests. Some are spa style, and others are like land based cruise ships.
Playa del Carmen is situated in the heart of Riviera Maya and is home to many tourist attractions, such as restaurants, shopping, and modern conveniences, ie; Sam’s Club, and Walmart. This is the fastest growing city in Mexico.
Explor, and Xcaret are two theme parks near Playa, and favorite destinations for many guests looking for activities appealing to many age levels.
Akumal is about a twenty minute drive north of Orquidea, and about twenty minutes from Playa del Carmen. Akumal is the perfect excursion city for a day trip. Come and swim with the giant turtles, eat at the famous Lol Ha Restaurant on the beach, and shop and many of the quaint Mexican art galleries.
Cozumel is an island off of Playa del Carmen, and has always been an excellent destination for diving. There is a ferry that can take you directly there from Playa. This destination was made famous by the movie “Against all Odds.”
Xpu Ha is a gorgeous expanse of white pristine beach, which is home to a number of all-inclusives. Many of our guests “graduate” from this area to Tankah because of the exclusivity and privacy of staying in a villa, and a calmer and more independent environment, rather than a resort or group setting. There are also many places to camp on the beach near here.
Tulum Pueblo has been growing rapidly over the past few years, and may eventually get it’s own airport. Tulum has evolved from a road junction, to a full blown town with a blossoming night life, restaurant scene, fashionable shopping district, and great many fruitarias, fresh fish stores, in a addition to a large supermarket. Orquidea is fortunate to have this great resource only 10 minutes away.
Tulum Beach hosts a number of “Eco Chic” palapa hotels, and attracts an arty, worldly, and trendy crowd. Here you can find yoga retreats, bikini boot camp, and many off the grid hotels. The beach is truly gorgeous here, and a great place to dine when not eating at Orquidea. There are many world-class restaurants that have been written up in the NY Times, as well as Trip Advisor. The topless models frolicking on the beach make people watching truly amazing.
